Daffodils

A Host of Golden Daffodils

William Wordsworth famously wrote about ‘a host of golden daffodils’ which were ‘fluttering and dancing in the breeze’. Suitably inspired by the arrival of Spring, bringing with it these wonderful blooms, our artists at The Vale produced their own take on the much-loved, sunny, flowers.

They created their artworks on canvas, stretched over a round frame for added interest. In addition to Wordsworth’s poem, their work was inspired by the artist, Tirzah Garwood. Tirzah is better known as the wife of painter, designer, wood engraver and book illustrator, Eric Ravilious, but was a talented artist and designer in her own right. Some of her creations are currently on show at The Dulwich Picture Gallery: ‘Tirzah Garwood, Beyond Ravilious’.

At least two of Tirzah’s striking works – ‘Flight of Spring’ and ‘Spanish Lady’ feature daffodils. The exhibition runs until 26 May but our group of creative painters will be able to treasure their daffodils on canvas for a lot longer.
