Artwork Features at Streatham Festival

The Streatham Festival is officially underway. Taking centre stage among the works on display at the library is ‘STREATHAM’, a piece produced by The Vale’s group of developing artists. Members have learned or honed their skills at our regular classes/workshops. It was heart-warming to see the number of people at the launch who were proud to have their photographs taken in front of the artwork as a celebration of the place in which they live and/or work.

The launch reception was attended by 120 people and sponsored by local solicitors, Antony Gold. It opened with Festival poet Dee Majek, who skilfully interacted Engaged the audience during his poem ‘’The Gift’. Speeches followed from local MP, Bell Ribeiro-Addy and the Mayor, Sarbaz Barznji, who both spoke of the diversity and community cohesion that the Festival embraces and generates.

Guests then mingled and viewed some of the works whilst enjoying refreshments courtesy of Brixton Brewery. Dee Majek brought proceedings to a close with his engaging poem ‘Streatham Speaks’.

The Vale’s art group could hardly wait to go and see their piece on display over the weekend. They were honoured and delighted to see it take its place among the other contributions.

The Streatham Festival runs until 22 October at a series of venues. It covers art in all its forms, music, theatre, literature and a host of events created by local people – amateur and professional.
