Birds of Streatham was the theme of the latest art class for The Valees. Like most things artistic, however, there was a degree of flexibility given that a peacock made an unexpected appearance.
Many of our residents really enjoy watching the local birds that visit the Vale’s terrace and patio garden and this session was designed to build on that enthusiasm. The artists were initially daunted by the task in hand but were relieved to be taught a simple way of drawing a bird using geometric shapes and simple lines.
Using their favourite medium of acrylics, they created a myriad of birds from a Streatham starling, to several renditions of a robin. Some were more tropical in their designs, reflecting the lovely weather on the day, hence the peacock.
The resulting compositions were a reflection, not only of the diverse range of birds that visit The Vale but also the inspirational people who form its community.
