Meet Sarah King, Manager at The Vale

Why are retirement villages in the capital becoming so popular?

Many traditional retirement developments have been in country or coastal locations as people living in the city have looked to move away. Now, though, we are seeing a rising trend of retirees who want the advantages of living in the capital with all that has to offer culturally.

Our type of development gives people an opportunity to downsize without losing their links to family and friends and the communities they are already a part of.

Tell us about your role at The Vale

A key advantage of living in a development such as The Vale is having access to a permanent staff team who are focused on meeting your needs whether they be care based or associated with your day-to-day living.

I am very excited to be leading that team of professionals and managing the communal, hospitality and care services that are provided to our valued tenants.

Tell us a bit about your background

I have worked within the care sector for over 20 years in Nursing, Residential and Homecare settings. Along the way I have achieved numerous qualifications in Management and Hospitality.  I am currently completing my degree in Health and Social Care.

What advice would you give people looking to move to a retirement village in terms of what to look for?

As with any house move, it’s about getting the right feeling. There has been a real attention to detail in the design of The Vale to enable people to feel that everything they could want has been catered for.

The Vale is close to the heart of Streatham and so has easy access to additional resources such as Streatham Leisure Centre, a library, several cinemas and plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes, as well as music groups, church community groups etc.

The Vale provides a strong sense of community which you will be able to be a part of, along with your fellow residents. We want you to make the most of the range of facilities and services we have to offer.

The Vale also offers a sense of security along with the most up-to-date technology to support your new lifestyle.

How do you make sure people feel secure?

Security at The Vale is provided in various ways. Whether it’s the smart technology, CCTV or knowing that staff are on site 24 hours a day, people can feel safe in the knowledge that it’s a secure environment. For some, that’s just about engaging with other people, either staff or other residents, and being able to share a concern. For others, it’s knowing that there is access to a range of homecare services.
