Re-Capturing Provence

Cezanne, Van Gogh, Matisse and Renoir are not only some of history’s most revered  artists, they all have a connection to Provence, having lived or spent time there. This magical part of southern France offers an inspirational quality of light, landscapes and serenity that has captivated creative for generations.

The work of these Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists have also provided the focus for several of The Vale Living’s art group sessions. Our most recent gathering brought a little of that Provencal sunshine to South London, as our painters created their own little piece of French paradise. Their canvases captured Mediterranean skies, hilltop villages and bobbing boats on blue waters.

Everyone found ‘channelling’ the sunshine through their work a therapeutic and calming exercise. One of our number was fortunate enough to have lived in Provence for a while and reminisced about their experience. Another of our residents was as pleased as Punch with their[?] completed landscape – and rightly so.

All the members of our art group have come so far since they first picked up a paintbrush or a pastel. Each is now capable of producing work worthy of hanging on their walls or in the homes of family and friends – a testament not only to growing skill, but to confidence, creativity and enjoyment.
