St George’s Day Celebrated

We Brits might have been a bit confused over St. George’s Day this year but, as far as The Vale residents are concerned, any day is a good day for a celebration.

England’s Patron Saint’s day is officially celebrated on 23 April but the Church rules that if a Saint’s day falls within Holy or Easter week, as it did this year, then it is moved to the following week. This means that the official date for St George’s Day in 2025 is 28 April.

Never ones to be deterred, our residents donned their best patriotic outfits and got together to enjoy a thoroughly British lunch which included a choice of Lancashire Hot Pot, Shepherd’s Pie, Steak & Kidney Pie followed by Bread & Butter or Rice Pudding.

A jovial time was had by all with much chatter, laughter, reminiscing and toasting. There may even have been a verse or two of some popular anthems. We’ll drink to that!
