Streatham Letters Re-visited

Our art group at The Vale Living has re-visited a work that was much admired at The Streatham Festival three years ago. Participants created individually designed and decorated letters that were pieced together to spell out the name ‘S-t-r-e-a-t-h-a-m’.

With the 2026 festival due to get underway on 9 October, the idea has been revived. Nine residents came together to create this year’s contribution (plus one supporter who was happy to watch the creative process unfold).

The room was remarkably quiet and the concentration palpable as everyone worked on their letter. Each was an individual design but it was surprising how well the different designs came together to produce the final artwork. It was at that moment that chatter and laughter broke out!

Our finished piece will be on display for all to see as part of the group exhibition in the local library.

The Streatham Festival is a vivid celebration of music, entertainment and the visual arts. The launch will be attended by the Mayor, local councillors and members of the community who make Streatham such a vibrant place to live and work.

The Festival runs until 18 October and will have something for everyone. For further details of the full programme visit https://streathamfestival.com
