A Life Well-Lived, Together

When you walk through the doors of The Vale, you immediately get a sense of community – and that’s just what we set out to achieve.

Our communal spaces buzz with activity. The Bar & Bistro is at the very heart of social life. It isn’t just a place to eat, although the food and friendly staff draw rave reviews: “Murali serves up the most brilliant menu,” says one of our residents. It’s where birthdays are celebrated, friendships are deepened and laughter is shared. There is a busy calendar of themed events – Royal Ascot, St George’s Day, Halloween and VE Day are just a few of our memorable occasions over recent months.

The library, craft room, cinema and lounge are well used – and often the setting for activities such as chair yoga, seated dancing and art sessions. There are numerous other regular or one-off happenings too – quizzes, where we are sometimes joined by a team from ‘Streatham Seniors’ who pit their wits either with or against ‘The Valees’; talks, bridge sessions, coffee mornings, including support for the McMillan Coffee Mornings.

Residents get together for their own trips out – a regular weekly walking group explores the local area; there are visits to museums and art galleries, birdwatching and photography – the list is as long and varied as their imaginations and sense of adventure.

We are also proud of our links with the local community – the aforementioned Streatham Seniors; the local St Peter’s church with our long-standing friend and sometime quiz master, Father Steffan Mathias; the Streatham Society and Streatham Festival where our residents were delighted to exhibit the ‘Streatham Letters’ they had designed and painted.

Life is fun and fulfilled at The Vale but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what some of our residents have to say: “The Vale feels like a family. Every member of staff — from carers to the chef — treats residents with respect and compassion.”

“We have regular coffee mornings and there’s always someone to talk to. I feel well cared for.”

“I’m so grateful I found The Vale after my husband died and my house became too big. The friendly atmosphere hit me the moment I walked through the door. My neighbours are a jolly, interesting bunch from all over the country. We’ve had themed dinners from Burns night to Abba, and we dress up for the occasion—one of us even has a wardrobe of outrageous costumes!”
