Artful Winters: The Vale’s Painting Class Embraces Frosty Inspiration

The recent chilly weather served as a muse for the latest art class at The Vale. Streatham Common’s frosty scenery became the canvas for creativity, as participants explored wintery whites alongside subtle tones of blue and green, capturing the essence of the season.

One resident fondly recalled the works of Alfred Sisley, noting how winter landscapes intrigued Impressionists like Claude Monet, Pissaro and Alfred Sisley. The challenge of painting light along with the palette needed for the tones of light and softened contours, made snow scenes a favoured subject.

Despite the icy inspirations, the warm and homely atmosphere of The Vale’s retirement village provided a comforting contrast to the final wintery artworks. Laughter filled the room as residents perfected the technique of adding falling snow to their paintings. The class not only fostered artistic skills but also camaraderie, with residents eagerly sharing their masterpieces with the community.
